In
our interview with Diablo 3 lead designer Jay Wilson, it was explained that there were no plans to bring the long-awaited title to any platform other than PC and Mac. However, in the six days that have passed since said interview, a couple of Blizzard higher-ups weren't quite as dismissive of the possibility of the dungeon crawler making an appearance on our primitive
gameboxes -- though the language used to describe this possibility hasn't exactly given us
high-apple-pie-in-the-sky hopes.
When asked about a console rendition of the third entry in the Lord of Terror-slaying franchise,
Blizzard COO Paul Sams gave an inconclusive "I don't know yet," though
Vice President of Game Design Rob Pardo suggested a console port was "theoretically possible," as out of all of Blizzard's franchises,
Diablo would be the most console-friendly. We guess a theoretical "yes" is better than an actual "no", or a metaphorical "maybe", but we're still not holding our bated breath for a non-compy version of
Diablo the Third. by Randy Nelson Jul 4th 2008 11:00PM

We were starting to think that the new camo patterns available for download via
Metal Gear Solid 4's "Extras" screen were going to be fairly mundane. Silly us! This is
Hideo Kojima we're talking about here, and behind his stoic stare the guy has
quite the sense of humor.
Case in point: the two new OctoCamo patterns available today. Called "Laughing Camo" and "Raging Camo," they cover Snake in text when equipped (which doesn't exactly sound like the best thing for, you know,
stealth gameplay). These patterns aren't about hiding from enemies, though ... their effects are actually seen when you get
near them. They cause PMC soldiers and other foes to break out into laughter and howling on sight, rendering them temporaily stunned. (Making the new camo settings something you'll want to use only on your second, third, fourth, or fith play-through, lest you ruin a "pure" first-time experience.)
Taking on The Patriots
and getting kooky with Kojima? That's what we call a fun way to spend the Fourth.

Whether calling it out for being
too colorful or even
too conservative,
Diablo 3 naysayers have certainly not lacked for ammunition to sling at the action RPG since it was
made all official like late last month. Now pessimists can add another rock to the pile, with Blizzard poster Bashiok writing on the official
World of Warcraft forums that the
Diablo 3 devs are working to discourage online skullduggery, and that multiplayer will focus primarily on cooperative play.
Explained Bashiok, "We have a large focus on cooperative play for
Diablo III, and the mechanics and design decisions related to multiplayer are likely going to be based on supporting and encouraging it as much as possible, and not breaking it down." However, PvP will apparently have its place in the game, as Bashiok baited forumers by adding, "That doesn't mean that PvP won't have its own focus, but those are details and features we aren't yet discussing." So for now it looks like PKers will need to find another outlet for their
griefing ways, perhaps by venturing outside into the sunlight for a rousing game of Freeze Tag.

Beyond some crappy scans and lots of speculation, real info on the WiiWare return of
Mega Man has been scant. Well, GamesRadar just
opened the flood gates with its exclusive, proper reveal of
Mega Man 9, featuring a hands-on by Nintendo editor Brett Elston and an
interview with series creator (and
MM9 producer)
Keiji Inafune.
Elston reports that
Mega Man 9 is ... well, it's essentially an NES game – just as difficult as the original 8-bit installments of the famed series. "
Mega Man 9 is easily on par or above the hardest games in the series," Elston says, adding: "Hell, we played for two hours and only made it to three bosses, and even then only beat two." Read on after the break for more new info.

A little ninja scampered across our screen to bring news that
Metanet, developer of
N+, has three level packs for the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game ready and waiting. According to a post on Metanet's blog, the downloadable content has already been submitted to Microsoft for certification, although it has yet to receive a release date.
The post also reveals that one of the three packs will be free, and that, in total, the DLC-drop contains more than 750 new maps (roughly 300 of which are mutliplayer levels). The maps are reportedly "a lot better than the ones that came with
N+" due to the fact that Metanet has "had more time to learn what works." We know what
works: 750 more reasons to love the stylish and seductively simple ninja platformer.

Ninja Gaiden 2 will receive Mission Mode as DLC on July 25, according to a post on
NeoGAF. Mission Mode, if similar to the original iteration introduced in
Ninja Gaiden Black, drops Ryu into an arena setting and lets him go on a flippin' awesome ninja killin' spree. There is currently no price attached to the new Mission Mode DLC.
The possibility of a Mission Mode should come as good news to
NG II players who don't find
dressing up Ryu like a Ken doll a worthwhile activity. But, let's be honest, if it's anything like the original Mission Mode, shouldn't it have been shipped with the game or, and we're hoping this is the case, at least be free?

You can't put a price on nostalgia. But you can put a date on it -- at least if you happen to live in Japan. Our friends at Nintendo Wii Fanboy send word that according to
Famitsu,
Mega Man 9 will bound onto the Japanese WiiWare service sometime in September.
This gives us hope that the company's irresistibly retro take on the Blue Bomber will soon be released in other regions as well. However, Capcom remains mum regarding its agenda, leaving us to wait until E3 to find out more about its plans for the pixilated hero's
WiiWare-only digital launch outside of Japan. Now where did we put those rose-colored glasses?

Zap! Bang! Pow! Those are the names we've given to three new screens of
Sucker Punch's open-world superhero/villain game that have appeared on the
official PlayStation blog. We think they're only fitting since each shot depicts Dylan, the good/bad guy from
inFAMOUS, using his electric bolts to tear the town a new one.
The game continues to look great, albeit very ...
brown. Maybe these screens are just from the game's Brown District. (Okay, so we don't actually
know that it has such a district, or even districts
at all, but please play along?)
Along with the screens, Sony mentions that it will have "a bunch of news" about inFAMOUS at E3. We hope the "news" is that the game is actually playable at the show (and less brown).

Boy, they're not kidding when they urge you to keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times, especially not when said vehicle happens to be the Ishimura,
Dead Space's monster-infested milieu. Though some might view this trip down the carpal lane as a disturbing warning of what's to come (and bite your face off) in EA's outer space horror, we urge you to wrist assured and see this
strategically severed hand beckoning you closer, luring you into a gripping and atmospheric adventure.

Diablo 3 looks to be many things, but if early footage is to be believed, dark is not one of them. It's an observation that's incurred the ire of
thousands of armchair heroes expecting to return to the gritty countryside seen in previous games instead of the more colorful landscapes shown during the game's recent unveiling.
Speaking to
MTV Multiplayer, lead producer Keith Lee explained the game's artistic direction as emphasizing contrast, while comparing the game's visual style to
Lord of the Rings. To quote Lee, "color is your friend." We guess that's true ... except if you happen to be colorblind (hey, the story might be good too!). Even so -- judging by the players who've begun to gather pitchforks in hand en masse outside the Blizzard gates -- if we were Lee, we'd be sneaking out through the back.

Above: Yakuza 2
Get ready to hit the seedier side of Tokyo and slug it out
in HD –
Yakuza 3 is coming. The "real"
Yakuza 3. As first reported on
2chan, the latest issue of Famitsu quotes
Yakuza series director
Toshihiro Nagoshi as stating that the game is a direct sequel to
Yakuza 2, and is in development exclusively for PS3.
Nagoshi states in the Famistu article that
Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! – which is set in Edo-era Japan – is actually considered a spin-off from the "main"
Ryu ga Gotoku series (
Yakuza here in the West). No release date has been announced for the series' third (well, technically fourth) installment, but we'll keep you posted.
